Scholarships for PhD Doctoral Program Available!

For the third consecutive year Marko Dolničar, a student at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science was awarded the prize for best student poster at the prestigious TERENA Networking Conference in Maastricht under the auspices of the Laboratory for Computer Communications.

Summer workshops
FRI is organizing the following four workshops for students at the beginning of July: the »Summer school on machine learning« that is part of the FRI Summer School, the archeological workshop »Capture and processing of 3D data in underwater archaeology” which will take place in Portorož , the workshop »Jet Powered Web«, and the International Summer School »Applied and Computational Algebraic Topology«.
Marko Janković receives the award for best theme for a doctoral dissertation at the 2013 IEEE RSIC conference
Marko Janković, FRI junior researcher, received the award for the best theme for a doctoral dissertation at the 2013 IEEE RCIS conference. Janković’s dissertation is entitled “Semi-automatic improvement of software development methods”.
Summer School on Computational Topology and Topological Data Analysis

Call for application for the ComTrade scholarship
The Faculty of Computer and Information Science and ComTrade offer a ComTrade Scholarship for full-time study at the Master level at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science, Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The scholarship is open to foreign female citizens from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina enrolling in the Masters programme Computer and Information Science in the academic year 2013/2014.
Deadline for application is September 2nd 2013.

On friday 25th May mr.Vladimir Jirask from Great Britain will give a lecture on Secure your cloud applications by building solid foundations with enterprise (security) architecture. The lecture will be from 3.30 to 5PM in room P2.

Undergraduate students Matic Končan and Žiga Šveglja won second prize for the best student project competition at the Slovenian Days of Informatics.

Technical course: Programming dataflow supercomputers
During the week from May 6th until May 10th, prof. Veljko Milutinović will give a course on programming Maxeler dataflow supercomputers at FRI.
The first lecture will be on Monday, May 6th from 5:15 until 8 PM in lecture room P6 on Tržaška 25. For the remaining part of the week, lectures will be each afteroon.
In addition to the students enrolled in the course, anybody interested in the topic is invited to attend.

Jure Žbontar achieved excellent results in the whale call detection challenge
At "The Marinexplore and Cornell University Whale Detection Challenge" competition our FRI doctoral student Jure Žbontar achieved the excellent 5th place.
Slavko and Marinka Žitnik were successful in the competition in the elimination of gene regulatory networks
The "BioNLP Shared Task" competition (http://2013.bionlp-st.org) presents a series of challenges, which address problems related to the legality in biomedical research texts.
